YOUNG MASTERS GOLF HITS THE 40,000 MARK

Nottinghamshire schoolboy is milestone for leading young golfer scheme

A Nottinghamshire schoolboy has become the 40,000th youngster to take up golf through the nationwide Young Masters Golf (YMG) programme.

To celebrate the milestone, Riverside Golf Centre in Nottingham and YMG organisers held a party in honour of eight-year-old Georgio Constandi, who attends Plumtree Primary School, Nottingham.

YMG is the leading structured golf coaching programme, which takes place at more than 700 golf clubs across the UK and Ireland.

The junior academy at Riverside Golf Centre, Old Lenton Lane, Nottingham, has introduced well over 300 youngsters to golf using the YMG scheme and Head Coach Guy Meek said: “It’s great teaching groups of kids because they have so much fun, and by using the structure of YMG they learn so much about golf and improve so rapidly.

“One of the biggest rewards is that you are introducing youngsters to a great game at such a young age, one that they can play for the rest of their lives and that teaches them so many important life-skills.”

Georgio’s mum, Dina Constandi said her son wanted to take up golf after watching it on TV. She said: “Georgio loves his golf, he’s mad on it. He plays lots of other sports and when he saw golf on the telly he just wanted to have a go”.

Added Georgio: “I just like everything about golf and I want to get good at it”.

The party was attended by David Gosling, Managing Director and Founder of YMG who said: “YMG is all about getting the family involved in playing golf and having fun, and Riverside Golf Academy epitomises the YMG ethos of golf being, fun, friendly and affordable.”

"One of the most important aspects of YMG is that youngsters don't need to be a member of a golf club, or even own their own golf equipment, as everything they need to get started initially can be provided by their YMG coach."

Youngsters who enrol in the programme receive their own YMG folder and action pack, and throughout the courses there are lots of exciting activities, fun challenges and mini-competitions to ensure that the whole golfing experience is about having a good time playing sport.
