The Shire London Rated #1 Golf Club inside M25

  • Among the UK’s top-ten most-reviewed golf clubs, ahead of Turnberry, Gleneagles and Wentworth
  • Features UK’s only complete Seve Ballesteros course design
  • Rated #1 inside M25, #1 in Hertfordshire, #8 in England and #15 in UK by golfers

BARNET, NORTH LONDON, UK: The Shire London is celebrating its new status as London’s #1-ranked golf club, as voted for by the users of Golfshake.com.

With 169 reviewers giving the club an overall rating of 4.86 out of 5 – higher than any other golf club inside the orbital M25 motorway – The Shire London is confirmed as the capital city’s favourite place to play golf in 2016.

The club, which lies near the M25/A1 junction north of London, is also among the ten most-frequently reviewed golf clubs on the website, with more reviews than many world-renowned venues such as Turnberry, Gleneagles and Wentworth.

And among golf courses with 50 or more reviews on the website – regarded as the benchmark for statistical relevance – The Shire London is also rated the #1 most popular golf club in Hertfordshire, #8 in England, and #15 in the UK.

The club, which opened in summer 2007, features the UK’s only complete layout designed by Severiano Ballesteros.

“This rating is given by genuine, everyday golfers, who have paid their own money to come here, and as such we value it very highly” said the club’s owner Tony Menai-Davis. “We are tremendously proud to receive such a vote of confidence in the service which we provide – a service which we are constantly striving to improve.

“If he were still with us, I am sure that Seve would be overjoyed to know that the club is so loved by the golfers who come here.”

“Seve’s unique golf course is a big part of our appeal” said director Ceri Menai-Davis, “but I think we’re equally popular simply because of the culture at our club.

“It’s not rocket science. There aren’t many places in the UK with a golf course as spectacular as this, in this sort of condition, at these prices. Plus we have a relaxed dress code and none of the stuffiness with which you normally associate high-quality golf – there are no reserved parking spaces here, for example.

“We all just love our golf here” he continued. “We make sure we deliver a memorable day at very competitive prices, and we realise that people don’t just review the golf course – they review the overall experience, which is where we score very highly. It reflects tremendous credit on all of our hard-working staff, from the kitchen out onto the golf course.”

One reason for the club’s popularity is its long-running Legends Summer Fourball deal, which is back for another year. It enables four visitors to play Seve’s course plus enjoy a breakfast and a post-golf meal for under £50 a head throughout the summer, on weekdays.

Standard green fees for the Ballesteros Masters Course are £55 Monday-Friday (£70 weekends), and the club also has a high-quality 9-hole Academy Course plus extensive gym, restaurant, meeting and banqueting facilities.

The Shire London welcomes visitors and golf days, but at the heart of the golf club is its strong and loyal membership. In February 2016 the club unveiled a new three-year membership product, as well as a new 5-Day membership deal.

With over 180,000 independent reviews from genuine golfers, Golfshake.com has more golf course reviews than any other UK golf website. Call The Shire London on 020 8441 7649 or email golf@theshirelondon.com for more details.
