Golding Secures Tour Win With Honma Clubs

Englishman Phil Golding played Honma to clinch the weekend’s French Riviera Masters by four shots at the Terre Blanche Hotel Spa Golf Resort.

Golding’s third Tour victory on French soil is his first with Honma since switching to the prestigious Japanese brand in May 2014.

Yesterday’s victory elevates Golding to 5th on the Senior Tour Order Of Merit, with over 164,000 Euros. He trails another Englishman, Barry Lane, by just 14,000 Euros in the battle for fourth place.

“The feedback I get from my Honma clubs is superb” said the 52 year old from Bushey in Hertfordshire. “I have gained 6-7 yards with the irons, which is half a club, and with the new technology they are building into these clubs, the feel and touch I am getting is just incredible.

“I use a gold coloured Honma driver which attracts a lot of attention, as you’d expect! But it is a winning club, which is what matters. I am definitely playing more confidently with my new Honmas, and have had a string of good results with them this summer.”

In September, again playing Honma, Golding and Bernhard Langer tied for second place at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in Germany in a three-way playoff which also featured eventual winner Paul Wesselingh.

Golding’s French Riviera Masters victory makes him the only golfer in history to win a hat-trick of French events on the three different main Tours: the European Tour, the European Seniors Tour and the European Challenge Tour. He was also only the second golfer in history to win on all three different European Tours, after Italian golfer Costantino Rocca.

  • Honma S-03 Driver, 4 Star, 9.5°, Honma ARMRQ8 49 X shaft
  • Honma Tour World TW717 3 wood, 15°, VIZARD TA65 Stiff shaft
  • Honma Tour World TW717 U-19 and U22 Utility clubs, VIZARD UT650 shaft

ABOUT HONMA GOLF

www.honma.co.uk

Hiro Honma hand-built his first persimmon wood over 50 years ago, and over the years Honma’s Japanese craftsmen and women have perfected the art of making golf clubs, and the carbon graphite shafts which power them.

Honma’s meticulous approach is illustrated in every stage of a golf club’s life. No compromise is made at any stage, from initial design, through a manufacturing process in which at least 100 Honma craftsmen and women handle each club, to final checking and testing. Every single club is inspected by eye before it leaves Honma’s giant Sakata facility in northern Japan. Using state-of-the-art clubmaking technology, and the finest high-performance materials available, Honma Master Craftsmen add a uniquely human factor – decades of experience in the fine art of the golf club – to every piece of equipment the company produces. When you pick up a Honma golf club, you can be secure in the knowledge that skilled Japanese clubmakers have worked at length to craft it into the optimal piece of golf equipment.

Honma golf equipment sells throughout the UK at a select group of expert custom-fitters and clubmakers. Honma wedges and individual irons are available from £225, with putters from £325, utility clubs from £375 and fairway woods from £505. Drivers start at £910 and sets of Honma irons are available from £1,275.

Honma’s Star grading system enables golfers to select their preferred grade of carbon graphite shaft along with additional customisation options including head colour, shaft colour and the addition of 24 Karat gold and PT1000 platinum detailing and weights. 5-Star Honma drivers and fairway woods retail for £5,095 per club, with 5-Star Honma irons starting at £26,995 for a set of six clubs.
