22 September 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ENDS THIS SUNDAY: donate old golf bags for Caribbean prize

With thousands of clubs and bags already donated, Crown Golf’s ‘Golf Bag Amnesty’ has been a roaring success this summer.

But golfers who live close to a Crown Golf club have just a few more days to donate their old golf bags and clubs, as the summer-long charity appeal ends this Sunday.

Since June, over 3,000 golf bags and more than 15,000 golf clubs have been donated in the nationwide Bag Amnesty run by Crown Golf clubs across England.

Donated golf bags and clubs are being sent around the world by charity The Golf Trust to support projects to increase participation in the sport, with several UK disabled golf and inner-city projects also receiving some of the equipment. A Caribbean trip to Grenada also awaits one participant in a prize draw made possible by ex-Premier League and international footballer Jason Roberts, whose Foundation is helping to create sporting opportunities for young people on the island.

And all golfers who donate will receive a voucher giving £20 off their next purchase of a Callaway Golf bag at any Crown Golf club.

Simply collect any unwanted golf bags and clubs from your home, and hand them in to the golf teams at any one of 25 participating Crown Golf clubs before 5pm this Sunday.

“We are taking donations from absolutely everybody” said Crown Golf’s Stephen Towers, “so if you haven’t yet donated, I urge you to look in your garage, shed or loft, and bring in your old golf bags and clubs!

“Thousands of members of the public have already donated an item or two this summer, at our golf clubs. Come and visit us before Sunday evening, and we’ll put your donated equipment to good use somewhere in the world.”

Full details can be found on the web at www.freedomplay.co.uk/bagamnesty.

Ends.

ABOUT THE GOLF TRUST

www.thegolftrust.com

The Golf Trust was created to highlight and develop the inclusive values of golf. We feel that anyone and everyone should have the opportunity to play the sport regardless of circumstance. We seek to remove the barriers to participation so that everyone can play the sport we love. Our work is predominately outreach focused, taking the sport to inner city communities and places one may not usually associate golf with. The ComGolf project has worked tirelessly in London and the South East coaching over 10,000 people since September 2011. We've teamed up with organisations that share our aims to deliver fun community based projects with educational, health and technical performance outcomes.

ABOUT FREEDOM PLAY

www.freedomplay.co.uk

Of the estimated 4 million golfers in the UK, less than 1.5 million are members of a club. Crown Golf has created Freedom Play as a new way of joining a golf club, to encourage more golfers to take that step. In Freedom Play, golfers pay a low annual subscription and get credits which they exchange for rounds of golf. Play at busy times and you use more credits: play when it’s quiet, and your credits go further. Freedom Play membership is available at 18 Crown Golf clubs across the UK – see the website for locations.
