New 'Signature Hole' for Blue Mountain Golf Club

BINFIELD, BERKSHIRE, UK … Look out Bracknell area golfers: there’s a new ‘signature’ hole in the making at Blue Mountain, but beware – it might just consign your golf balls to a watery grave.

The Par Four 13th hole at Binfield’s BLUE MOUNTAIN G&CC runs alongside the busy Temple Way road, which is lined with houses. Following a health & safety review, the club has announced that it will start to remodel the hole in September, to minimise the chance of golf balls straying onto the road.

This is good news for golfers, as the work includes extending an existing lake to stretch across the full width of the fairway, turning the approach to the 13th green into a nerve-wracking test of skill. The hole will become a classic “short Par Four”, and is sure to become one of the Bracknell area’s most talked-about holes.

The 13th will also be slightly lengthened, and will become more of a ‘dog leg’, with the tees repositioned. A lateral water hazard will also be created to run along the full length of the hole.

The changes will make the hole more challenging and strategic, with a shorter ‘lay-up’ shot off the tee which removes the risk of golfers hitting it high, wide and not-so-handsome off the golf course with their driver.

The following hole, the Par Three 14th, will be shortened and improved at the same time.

Work starts in mid-September, and the enlarged lake is set to come into play within a month. The full remodelling will be complete before the start of the 2014 golf season. The 13th will still be in play while changes are made, although at times it will be reduced to a temporary Par Three while workmen are on site.
